Huu Lung (Yen Thinh) is a scenic limestone valley located north of Hanoi, Vietnam. The area features compact, high-quality limestone with predominantly vertical faces, offering excellent sport climbing in a peaceful rural setting, far from the hustle of the city.
Climbing here is mostly technically single-pitch, with routes generally well-protected and easily accessible from the valley road. As of 2025, the area also hosts several multi-pitch routes, including Chuć Suć Khoé (105m) – once the highest multi-pitch sport route in Vietnam.
The rocks stay dry even during rainfall, and the rock is exceptional, featuring tufas, huecos, pockets and positive crimps, making Huu Lung a rewarding destination for climbers of all levels.

Access & Location
Yen Thinh is reached by following National Highway AH1 north towards Lang Son Province, then taking a secondary road to Yen Thinh.
Travel time:
- ~2 hours from Noi Bai International Airport
- ~2.5 hours from Hanoi city center
Climbing Style & Gear
- Sport climbing on high-quality limestone
- Routes mainly 20–30m, with bolt spacing suitable for safe projecting
- Fixed protection marine uses-grade (316) stainless steel bolts
- Lower-offs and abseil stations equipped with dual bolts and rappel rings
- A 60m rope is sufficient for all routes
- Most climbs require up to 18 quickdraws
Cultural & Environmental Notes
Huu Lung is a rural area where climbing is still relatively new. Climbers are asked to:
Stay on established paths and avoid damaging crops
Respect local landowners (do not hang gear or hammocks on trees below the rocks)
Behave respectfully, as climbers are clearly visible from the village and main road
Maintaining good relations with the local community is essential for long-term access.

Chuć Suć Khoe Wall – Multi-pitch Highlight
Located above the main wall, Chuć Suć Khoé is the area’s flagship multi-pitch route and a must-do for experienced climbers.
Chuć Suć Khoe – 105m (5 pitches)
- Pitch 1: F6a+ – 30m
- Pitch 2: F6c – 20m
- Pitch 3: F6c – 15m
- Pitch 4: F7a+ (or F6c+ with aid) – 25m
- Pitch 5: F6c+ – 15m
The route is well-bolted, fully equipped for rappel, and can be climbed and descended with a single 60m rope.
